"More great stories, but not in this edition" according to Whistlers Mom. Medieval scholar and school administrator Montague Rhodes James ("Monty" to you) published four volumes of his famous ghost stories. Of course, ghost stories as a old as the human race, but Monty made them respectable with his excellent writing and scholarly background. His specialty was blending humor, horror, and the prosaic everyday lives of the English middle class. One minute a gentleman is changing his collar for dinner and the next a frightful specter has crept up behind him and is grinning in his mirror. I mean, if you insist on spending the night i. "A glass of sherry, a rainy night, perhaps a crackling fire, this booknothing like ghost stories to stimulate your imagination" according to Ms Beastle. This is like getting a second scoop of ice cream, different flavor, but complementing my first choice. All of these tales have a subtle pull, which works well to draw the reader into the story, and creates a passage to let your imagination do the heavy lifting. And believe me, human capacity for scaring oneself is almost limitless! I love these tales, they are so refreshing after exposure to most modern ghost stories. I highly recommend this and the previous volume of ghost stories by this author.. Ancient ghosts Ponder, if you will, an almost forgot time, not to far from ours. Open your mind to these dark tales and just enjoy. They love you. Moreover these stories excite the mind to think.
