DESCRIPTION:

Detective sergeant Denny Malone leads an elite unit to fight gangs, drugs and guns in New York. For 18 years he's been on the front lines, doing whatever it takes to survive in a city built by ambition and corruption, where no one is clean. Full of shocking twists, this is a morally complex and riveting dissection of the controversial issues confronting society today.. Don Winslow's latest novel is a haunting story of greed and violence, inequality and race, and a searing portrait of a city on the edge of an abyss. Now he's caught in a trap and being squeezed by the Feds, and he must walk a thin line of betrayal, while the city teeters on the brink of a racial conflagration that could destroy them all. From the New York Times best-selling author of The Cartel - winner of the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award for Best Thriller of the Year - comes The Force, a cinematic epic as explosive, powerful, and unforgettable as The Wire. What only a few know is that Denny Malone himself is dirty: he and his partners have stolen millions of dollars in drugs and cash

"It's not the Cartel, but what is?" according to spike. Winslow is one of my favorite authors. Cartel was one of my top ten books of all time. The Force is good, but it isn't the Cartel. There are no good guys.Malone, the main character, came off as. "Sadly, his weakest book" according to Mr Majestik. I’ve enjoyed reading Winslow’s prior novels like California Fire and Life, The Winter of Frankie Machine and The Gentlemen's Hour. But his latest is a dud. I found it one dimensional, full of cliches and unlikeable characters. But hey, he’s written over a dozen good books, so even a champ has to lose once in awhile.. Donavan said Let the details lure you in, and brace yourself for the ride. As a big Winslow fan, I had The Force preordered well before the release date. I was so excited to begin it that I pawned off two meetings and family movie night (I know, I know). I was starting to get a little disappointed based on the excessive detail and backstories but stayed with it knowing that my own anticipation was the main cause of my sulking. Wow, am I grateful. The twists, turns, and excitement forced me to skip the gym at lunch two days in a row just to finish the book. The amount of time Winslow invests to g
