About the Author Los Angeles based artist Alexandra Grant uses language and words as the basis for her paintings, drawings and sculptures. Grant has exhibited at institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the California Biennial, Orange County Museum of Art, and the Contemporary Museum, Baltimore. Keanu Reeves, born in 1964 in Beirut, is a celebrated actor and writer. His theatrical roles include an acclaimed portrayal of Shakespeare's Hamlet. . She has collaborated with artists and writers including Michael Joyce and Hélène Cixous, and is a founding member of the Watts House Project in Los Angeles

In the tradition of a classic "hurtin' song", Reeves' text externalizes a melancholy internal monologue and subtly pokes fun at it. Ode to Happiness is a grown-up's picture book, a charming reminder not to take oneself too seriously. Grant's images, delicately realised in sombre inky washes, reflect the dark and light, the pathos and humour of the text. With drawings by painter Alexandra Grant, text by actor Keanu Reeves, and in collaboration with mutual friend Janey Bergam, this facsimile artists' book is about making the best of a bad situation. Neither entirely earnest nor wholly ironic, Ode to Happiness is both a meditation and a gentle tease about how we cope with life's sorrows.

A unique feature There are a lot of meaningful and insightful reviews here but this isn't one of them.I pre-ordered the book as soon as I heard about it and yes it's because I admire Keanu Reeves.I didn't have any preconceived notions about it and and hearing how it came to be thought it would be a fun addition to my library.I was completely charmed by the fact that it's the first left handed book I've ever had. By putting the title on the spine of the boo. "Sharp wit and soft artwork" according to sadsue. Tongue-in-cheek sarcasm that seems to be motivated by all the talk of Mr. Reeves' sadness. The artwork is beautiful. The book appears to be handcrafted like we used to do as kids but with an artisan's skill. "Ode to Happiness" is tactile pleasure for the physical presentation of a not-so-private joke on us. Thank you!. "It made me happy" according to Denise Barker. It was a lovely way to express an old adage, we have all probably spoken at one time or another. Buy the book to see what I mean, it's bound well, has a great message, and the simplicity speaks volumes. Well done Mr. Keanu Reeves
