--Maudeen Wachsmith. Mike, Tisha is one of those rare books that stays with the reader for years, beckoning to be read again and again. She finds this and much more in a town with the unlikely name of Chicken, located deep in the Alaskan interior. Anne Hobbs is a prim and proper 19-year-old schoolteacher who yearns for adventure. A heartwarming story in the tradition of Benedict Freedman's classic, Mrs. Anne quickly makes friends with many of the townspeople, but is soon ostracized when she not only befriends the local Indians but also falls in love with one. It is 1927 and Chicken is a wild mining community flaming with gold fever

EXCITING FROM START TO FINISH! This book held my interest from start to finish. I'd made a trip to Alaska a couple of years ago, so having traveled some of the same country, I was even more interested in the story. This book held my interest. I couldn't put it down! The descriptions of the scenery, the bigotry, and the unabashed insight into how people of different cultures often have trouble working together was especially well done. It's often not understood but merely tolerated, and that's the best that can be done. The description of how it is to live in primitive conditions with weather that is intolerable several months of th. A Page Turner from the Start GBJ Great book. I could hardly put it down. Hard to believe adventures Tisha put herself and her future husband through when they took the trip to rescue children that were being sent to the Indian Village. You will learn about the different peoples in Depression Era Alaska. Not everyone there is a nice, concerned neighbor. I highly recommend this book if you like non-fiction adventure books.. Brady Buchanan said PREJUDICES BEYOND BLACK AND WHITE. A wonderful, heartfelt true story of times gone past where many moons have gone by and a much simpler life style in a forbidding country that is just fine for most of its inhabitants. There is love and hate and experiences inbetween with a good feeling of those times in a forbidding atmosphere. A grand read indeed.
