Great book by a typography pioneer Msplumuniq Ellen Lupton is a typography pioneer. This is a somewhat petite book, which is nice. It's loaded with information. I know there is a free version online, but that has parts left out, so I thought this might be a good investment. I have another typography book that was for a textbook in class, but it's expensive and I only rented it. My . Stuart A. Smith said Remarkable Communication of Type Knowledge. This is another must have typography textbook to keep by your side. Ellen has a different approach to explaining the history and techniques of applying type in various mediums. She gives some history too with numerous references to other books to expand upon. Her examples illustrate her words poetically. I would highly recommend this al. "Not a practical manual" according to Amazon Customer. This book is a wonderful work of art, and it presents the topic in an interesting and creative style -- but it is not a practical manual. It's very heavy on "creative flair" and very light on useful, straight-forward advice on effectively designing with type.
