DESCRIPTION:

Finally! a new, fresh take on Fantasy novels!! Suspenseful and hilarious at the same time!! As other reviewers have noted, this book is very well written. The twists in the plot are some of the most endearing qualities of this book. You really think at the end of a chapter that the book is going to go a certain direction only to find out in the next chapter's introductory paragraphs that you are dead wrong in your assumptions. Also, as another reviewer stated, this is a Medieval Ocean's Eleven, but honestly, the story is such a refreshingly new twist on the Fantasy genre that I thoroughly enjoyed it. If I had to describe the "Gentlemen Bastards" gang to someone who hadn't read the series I . Great fun and a thrilling book! Maria A Guglielmo A rollicking and lively tale, with world-building so complex yet so effortless, The Lies of Locke Lomora is just plain fun. It's sort of Ocean's Eleven meets Machiavelliwith long-vanished aliens thrown in. The hero is a former urchin turned master con-man, and he and his fellow Gentleman Bastards navigate an alternate world based on the Renaissance Italian city states. I was listening to the Audible version in my car (which takes forever, but helps me get more books in) when I got close to the climax of the book. I couldn't wait, so I downloaded the Kindle version too and finished the last 100 pages . All the stars! A new favorite. Seriously talented. I cannot recommend him enough, his narration is everything and so absolutely perfect for this book. The voices, inflections, and differing intensities ar

Passing themselves off as petty thieves, the brilliant Locke and his tightly knit band of light-fingered brothers have fooled even the criminal underworld's most feared ruler, Capa Barsavi. With a bloody coup under way threatening to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the Gray King at his own brutal game—or die trying.. A con artist of extraordinary talent, Chains passes his skills on to his carefully selected "family" of orphans—a group known as the Gentlemen Bastards. Known as the Gray King, he is slowly killing Capa Barsavi's most trusted men—and using Locke as a pawn in his plot to take control of Camorr's underworld. Soon he is infamous as the Thorn of Camorr, and no wealthy noble is safe from his sting. Under his tutelage, Locke grows to lead the Bastards, delightedly pulling off one outrageous confidence game after another. But there is someone in the shadows more powerful—and more ambitious—than Locke has yet imagined. An orphan's life is harsh—and often short—in the island city of Camorr, built on the ruins of a mysterious alien race. But born with a quick wit and a gift for t

Lynch provides plenty of historical and cultural information reminiscent of new weirdists Steven Erikson and China Miéville, if not quite as outré. From Publishers Weekly Life imitates art and art scams life in Lynch's debut, a picaresque fantasy that chronicles the career of Locke Lamora—orphan, thief and leader of the Gentlemen Bastards—from the time the Thiefmaker sells Locke to the faking Eyeless Priest up to Locke's latest con of the nobility of the land of Camorr.
