A Must Have for any Biblical Expositor Pastor John I can't recommend this volume highly enough. While most good commentaries focus on the grammar and the syntax of individual clauses or sentences, this short and very valuable work focuses on how people actually communicate, in paragraphs, units of thought and entire discourses. This volume really helps guard against sacrificing accuracy for precision in exposition. It also is very valuable in spotting the semiticisms in this most . A model commentary. Fantastic! Anthony S. Dr Varner has written a commentary that should be a model for future commentaries on any bible text. His observations are straightforward and text-driven, rather than a listing of what everyone else has ever said about the text--as we see in most commentaries. He helps us to see what James has written clearly and allows the reader the freedom to cypher the implications (theological and otherwise) according to their own schema. I r. "Two Stars" according to Dana Kidder. Very technical. Not for the average preacher.
