Brown's quick dialogue, character quirks, and plot twists help give a modern bent to the classic detective tale. Hammond Cross wants to be the district attorney, and for years he has proven himself to be a man of high principles and irreproachable character. However, this simple debate becomes complicated when Pettijohn is murdered and Hammond's alibi is a night of forbidden passion with the suspected murderess, Dr. --Nancy R.E. Alex Ladd. Sandra Brown's two previous novels, Unspeakable and Fat Tuesday, earned her a loyal band of romantic suspense fans and The Alibi is sure to increase the following. When his investigations turn up evidence of the corruption of local tycoon Lute Pettijohn, Hammond has no doubt about what is the right thing to do--even when his own father is under suspicion. Sandra Brown outdid herself again with this excellent novel. Alone on a clear night with no * Another excellent romantic suspense being one of my personal favorites by bestselling author Sandra Brown in this outstanding thriller consisting of distrust, utter betrayal, murder, romance and a shocker of an ending. A must read!.Special assistant Hammond Cross of the Charlestown Co. Solicitors Office, feels a need to take a long drive and forget about the tedious day that he had. For no apparent reason, he pulled over and decided to attend the county fair. Unsure of where to go,he decided to enter the dance pavillion. Why not? Its a nice atmosphere, he can sit down and besides, the music will calm his nerve. Highly recommended for those looking for something more than "just romance." Mystery and Suspense are the meat of this book. This was my first Sandra Brown book and I'll definitely start looking at the others. I found some parts a bit unrealistic, but am still giving it 5 stars. I found the other reviews interesting because I had tried a Sandra Brown sample a while back and didn't care for it. After reading other reviews, I'm assuming my first sample must have been one of her romance books, of which there are all ready too many on the market. The Alibi includes romance but goes beyond into the mystery and suspense mode. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something more than "just romance.". "A Good Ol' Fashioned Whodunit" according to Gloria S. When a rich old man everyone despises gets killed, there is a long list of potential suspects. Everyone we meet seems to have a motive for killing this man, so the reader is brought along suspecting first this person and then the next. The story is well-told with a few surprises along the way. A very good read.
