This book is narrow in focus, which does a great job of reinforcing the most important points about Patrick's painting process The actual subjects of the paintings are superfluous, as the techniques can be applied to any subject, so lon. Robert G. Smith said A fantastic book by a great artist and teacher.. This is the BEST book I have read on the subject. Period. Nothing else comes close. Patrick goes into great detail explaining both how and why he paints with both traditional and water mixable oils. He even touches on both digital painting and drawing. A side note, he has a book coming soon on drawing and anatomy as well. I can't wait for that one. Patrick's method is very traditional, and it is not fast or easy. It is thorough, considered and meticulous. At the same time it leaves room for spontaneity and inspiration. Not everyone will want to paint this way, but I promise you, you will learn much by trying . A Brilliant Compostition Awesome book on techniques, showing step by step sampling. I've read a couple of reviews that were obtuse about the use of scantily clad women (some call them bare naked, but those apparently aren't actually looking at the detail) and are obviously not judging the work on any viable criteria--such as color choice, blending, glazing or layering. If you expect to see fantasy art without revealing suits (on men and women), you're new to the genre. Likewise, if you expect to see art without traces of either Frank Frazetta or Boris Vallejo inspiration in them. Jones's use of color is purely his own. As you look at
