I loved the trailing story, the descriptions of the deep south, the wi. Not just true crime DJ Arboretum This is John Safran's first attempt at a true crime story. He bases his style on Truman Capote's 'In Cold Blood' were the story is told from the point of view of the author and his investigations. This means Safran had commited to the story before he had done much research. He was initially interested as the victim, a white supremacist, was somebody he interviewed for one of his documentary series exploring race relations. The writing style, like Safran's documentaries, is idiosyncratic and may not appeal to everybody, but I enjoy his self deprecating while slightly superior humour.The book raises . Ange said Great reading. I'm not much for reviewing but I feel compelled to say how much I enjoyed this book. Safran has a natural writing style that resonated with me personally and kept me turning the pages. I also really liked how the book teased me as a reader, leading me towards one conclusion only to blow it out of the water later on. At the end I still felt as though I was being implored by the writer to come to my own decision and I respect that.One thing that really stood out to me was the blatant racism still evidenced in the south and how casually it's treated there, a real eye opener.
