Tra Kieu said The best book for the non economist who wants to know. The best book for the non economist who wants to know haw to think about things proposed by politicians. It teaches how to understand the ramifications of any proposal by a pol for aiding this group or that. One who reads this book cannot be conned by pols again. He may continue to agree with the pol's proposal but he cannot help to know the chain of development of how the new policy will play out in real life.. This world needs more guys like Henry Hazlitt. Henry Hazlitt was one of the clearest thinkers and succinct authors in economics I've ever had the opportunity to study. His contributions are clear, well thought out, explained and relevant. Unfortunately we have the finest politicians that money can buy. And therein lies the problem. They are already bought & paid for. Sensible economics is not high on their agenda.. Good book, but Allow me to preface this by saying that this is an excellent book, and definitely worth the buy. It's incredibly easy to read, and could work as an introduction to economics if you're actually interested. My main problem with it is that it largely focuses on two ideas: the idea that most problems with economics today revolve around the Broken Window fallacy, and that every economic problem can be solved by looking at both short and long term effects.
