Easy to read overview of thousands of years of philosophy Bas Vodde It took a while before I finally finished "The History of Western Philosophy." There is a lot of history and Bertrand Russell covers a lot of history very quickly and briefly and still the book is 900 pages thick. That said, it was well written and not too hard to read. The hardest for me was to keep track of all the relationships explained. To truly understand all of them, I'd need to read it a couple more times.Summarizing "The History of Western Philosophy" is not possible in a book review and I won't attempt it. One important topic in this book is that it is as much "history" as ". Barrie Bracken said Thankfully in Audio Form. Bertrand Russell has been a hero of mine for as long as I can remember. My father and my best friend refused to believe his history with T. S. Elliot and his wife, but I feel this has no place in judging a man of Russell's quality. Unfortunately he only mentions A. N. Whitehead but as he states not everyone can be covered. Russell does a good job keeping his personal prejudices from his history. My review is of the audio rendition but I have read the text before eyesight mad that impossible. I should say here how much I appreciate this and other works being presented in an audio form.. Systems of Thought This book its about philosophers (some of them) and philosophies. Russell, in a clear and concise style, exposes the ideas and the social context of the most important philosophers in the Western until Dewey. The philosophers’s main arguments are examined and criticized. Russell gives his thoughts about the main questions and presents the alternatives one may have when study the distincts systems of thought conceived by different men in diverse epocs. An amazing work about philosophy.
