More! More! This is the second in a series written by a medieval scholar, and the difference from the kind of potboiler made up on the scrappy information provided by most modern educations (that's a euphemism for "None at all or wildly inaccurate) shines like a good deed in a naughty world. In addition the author provides a gently scholarly essay at the end of the book, to clarify points the reader may be confused (misinformed) about. The characters from the first book reappear and develop further, and the doings of med. Loved this one! Kathleen Ingram A very marvelous book that took up where the first left off with greater character depth and intricate plot line. Subsequent books in a series sometimes are that wayis it the reader or the writer or both? The first book was very good but this one surely surpassed it.I found myself gasping at certain events just like it was happening before my eyes. Nicholas rescuing Emma from her stepfather's attack dogs was one such moment! Of course I did not want it to end and I am anxious for a sequel. The history is uniqu. "After reading both books in this series, I would" according to cece. After reading both books in this series, I would hope Miss Swinfen would write another story about the same family. IFound both stories entertaining and think there is enough historical information to provide fodder for additional books, i.e. what happens next to the couple, the grandfather of the novice, the children, etc. As a lover of books, I was enthralled but the process of bookmaking and the amount of work entailed before the invention of the printing press.
