DESCRIPTION:
From Publishers Weekly Singer-songwriter Denver, now 50, uses this self-indulgent autobiography to review his career and muse about the naivete that has characterized his personal and professional life. Photos not seen by PW. Copyright 1994 Reed Business Information, Inc. Writing with freelancer Tobier, he describes a troubled relationship with conservative, middle-class parents, the failure of his two marriages, deception by a manager and his admiration for people like Werner Erhard of est, Wernher von Braun of the National Space Institute and architect Buckminster Fuller, who he claims have inspired his efforts on behalf of the environment and other causes. In spite of his great success as a performer and his accomplishments as a social activist, Denver, who derives the book's title from his song "Take Me Home, Country Roads," says he is still trying to find himself, and he wallows in a great deal of
75,000 first printing. The internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, and environmental activist describes his youth in a conservative military home, striking out on his own, early success, uneasy dealings with fame, and concern for the environment. Tour.
Great Read For any true John Denver lover, this gives you much insight to the man and his story. I recently met a performer who told me John taught him guitar. In speaking with him, he confirmed much of what I read in John's autobiography. I am somewhat surprised at those who denigrated this, as anyone who followed John's life, would know all the "good and the bad" aspects of this wonderful performer. We are all human and we all have our fallacies. I would never speak poorly of someone who was honest enough to admit his/her . "A very honest autobiography of a lonely, searching man" according to J. Eyre. This book is a very honest and forthright "letter" to his fans from a lonely man. Listening to his music and then reading this book convinces me that he was always looking for love and acceptance. I'm not sure any human could meet the deepest needs he seems to have had. This book does reveal his background and he does indeed confess events in his life that were shameful but seems to illustrate that searching need. Even his addictions seemed to stem from that needthat emptiness that his music so often expressed. I . John Denver autobiography Shasha Hi, I love John Denver songs/lyrics/and the awesome person he was. This book told about his career in music and a little about his relationships. He is very polite/kindtries to get along with everyone in peace/harmony. He doesn't say alot about others to be kind to them. He had a hard childhood and marriages did not work out too well even though he wanted them to work. I think he got very sad at the end of his lifefelt a fool, said his brain did not work too well. I don't know if his plane accident was suicidebut
