DESCRIPTION:
Kaddish provides a record of his journey of discovery, as he wrestles with questions of faith and reason while reflecting on the life of his father and of his people.. Struck by the profound, yet unexpected power of this practice and the poverty of his knowledge about it, he began to study the history and meaning of this ancient ritual. When Leon Wieseltier's father died, he began to observe the traditional year-long period of mourning, going to the synagogue three times a day to recite the prayer known as the mourner's Kaddish
Angry Disappointed Non Reader said Powerful Work. This book was both interesting and intensely moving. Despite the difference in my cultural background, Irish Catholic, and my shallow intellectual understanding of my own faith tradition in contrast to Mr Wieseltier's apparent deep immersion in his, I found this book a deeply resonating answer to the challenge of grieving for a dead. "A thoughtful book to be savored slowly." according to Kindle Customer. This book does not fit any easy classification and needs to be evaluated on its own basis. I have loved it, and found it very thoughful and satisfying, even though I do not belong to the same faith tradition as the author. I cannot read it all at once. It needs to be taken in small doses so that one can savor and muse about the impl. pat said Wasn't what I thought More like a study guide for a yeshiva class than for.
