One great chapter. Escondido Scott, an undistinguished painter, a recovering alcoholic, and a general sad sack, runs into a woman he knows casually while at the farmer's market on Martha's Vineyard. He's there for the summer to paint, she's there with her family to enjoy life as one of the me. Thereafter I began to lose the story arcs of the (too) many characters being introduced along with their relationships to the story I'd begun to enjoy. It was at this point that I knew the magic was. Flaws, humanity, dreams, all the main cast had them and they were well explored. Even read some lines a few times to let the words linger, like a fine wine. While the book was engaging it fell as flat as t
