DESCRIPTION:

Here, Dean Fidelman's thrilling archival photos reveal for the first time an era defined by risk, camaraderie and nonconformity. Tales from original Stonemaster John Long and others recall the highs and lows of the early days-a magical time in the annals of adventure sports.. In the early 1970s, a small band of young rock climbers, decked out in bandanas, shades and cutoffs, came together and blew open the conventions of climbing. Among the first Stonemasters were Rick Accomazzo, Richard Harrison, Mike Graham, Robs Muir, Gib Lewis, Bill Antel, Jim Hoagland, Tobin Sorenson, John Bachar and John Long, but the character or myth of the Stonemaster caught on like wildfire, spreading from coast to coast and across the ocean, and spawning Stonemasters everywhere. Beyond their unsurpassed skills as climbers, the Stonemasters embodied a lifestyle-they were loud, proud, smoked dope, chalked their lightning-flash insignia across rockfaces, took the light stuff serio

stonemasters This is a great book!! It brings into print a time and spirit that is doubtful will ever be recreated or repeated. John Long's writing is as good as ever and the stories by other climbers help bring different perspectives to Stonemasters. The photographs, while not technically of today's standards, also capture the spirit of the time. Those of us who are contemporaries of the Stonemasters will look at the photos of these young men and think back on our lives at that time. The adventures, risks taken and successes and the loss of friends doing what they love best. For younger climbers th. Laughed and cried pyrotica Stone Masters is an amazing work. This book is truly a piece of art. John Long's heroic prose combined with beautiful vintage photography offer a unique look into the glorious and troubled lives of the cutting edge rock climbing culture of the seventies. Hilarity and heartbreak come in equal measure here. For anyone who has loved climbing in Yosemite, Joshua Tree, or Tahquitz, and wishes to know more of the history behind these areas, this book is a must have.. Testimonial book from very special times Carlos O. I love this book and specially its pictures (some of them are not top quality, but it is OK). It is very funny to see all those guys at the very beggining of the sport climbing (high risk sport climbing I would say). It is worthy and although I found it a little bit expensive I am Happy with it.
