Erika said All the love, hate. Maggie James kept my eyes peeled to each page in The Second Captive. A psychological read about Beth an average 18 year old whose naiveté and grandiose dreams get into a world of hot water with predator Dominic Perdue. Life has played an evil number on Dominic Perdue, who grew up with an abusive father who did unspeakable crimes. The images and his father’s raging temper, control issues, and psychological illness repeat themselves inside Dominic’s head as he abducts Beth and force. Enjoyed every minute of it I'd like to start off my review by saying just how intense this novel really is. It reminded me a lot of the kind of psychological thriller that the movie Fallen was for me. As pure entertainment, this book was great. But there's also another level to it where I got to explore a well done novel about Stockholm Syndrome and its effects on one young woman. We've heard about this before and there are plenty of novels that romanticize a captured person falling in love with their captive. Its actually a . "Wow. Astoundingly good!" according to JadeVixen. Wow. The perfection of this story is astounding. I am not surprised. Maggie James has a gift that I've come to truly appreciate. Much like Gillian Flynn, she has a way with telling a story that leaves you in suspense. I simply could not stop reading. I was completely absorbed in the story, the characters, and the way the author expertly weaved them together.We get to see the inner workings of a kidnapping from both the captive girl's perspective, and the kidnapper's point of view. Beth is young, nai
