An excellent contribution This is an excellent book. The author carefully and clearly distinguishes between the concept of risk (Boole's determinate probabilities or point estimates ) and uncertainty (Boole's indeterminate ,interval valued probabilities). There are a few minor errors in the book .Adam Smith ,and not Gossens, was the first economist to carefully discuss the difference between risk and uncertainty on pp. 106-113 of chapter 10 of Part I of the Wealth
When is it morally acceptable to expose others to risk? Most moral philosophers have had very little to say in answer to that question, but here is a moral philosopher who puts it at the centre of his investigations.
