DESCRIPTION:

However, the investigation is mired in confusion, and the identities of killer and victim become increasingly ambiguous. Pentonville Prison. Wally Hibbert is serving a long sentence for arson. But after befriending and tricking one of the officers, Hibbert makes an audacious escape. An inmate at an internment camp who might be a spy sending intelligence to the Germans complicates matters further, and the multiplying manhunts, as well as Marmion's concern for his injured and withdrawn son Paul, leave the detective desperate and perhaps with too many threads to untangle.. Inspector Marmion, the detective who arrested Hibbert, is warned to watch his back, but it seems that Hibbert has another target in his murderous sights

A great period series Discovered this series by accident and was pleasantly surprised. I Have since read every book in the series set in England during WWI. It is very reminiscent of the BBC series "Foyle's War" in that it follows the casebook of a police inspector in a wartime setting. As with the television series this series shows that murder is always to be dealt with even during a global war. If you don't know very much about the home front in WWI. You certainly will learn about it in these books whi. "the plot is great and I really enjoy the characters" according to R. Peabody. The style is old radio play - all the books written by Marston in this era have the stiff, Victorian, authoritarian approach. After having read many of his novels, it's not as enjoyable. However, that said, the plot is great and I really enjoy the characters.. Chad Quick said Personal problems increase in this book. Superb! The sixth installment in this series is just as good as the previous five. I rate this series right up there with his Elizabethan Theater series.
