DESCRIPTION:

Joyce said Has Patricia Cornwell been abducted by aliens?. Unfortunately, I'm inclined to agree with reviewers who are questioning first themselves. Have I missed a book? Or, who's writing this and slapping the name of a previously well liked and respected author on it? Unexplained questions throughout the story don't add suspense, they just had me going back to what had already been read, which is frustrating. What happened to make Pete Marino such a paranoid, self destructive, unlikable thug? Is there some new, albeit as yet unreported disease that explains what's happening to Lucy? A tumor on the pituitary gland?? Come . "Not the Scarpetta we fell in love with" according to Cheryl A. Horwath. I used to love Patricia Cornwell's books. I bought hard copies and now am purchasing for my kindle and re-reading. The story line is passable, but the main characters have changed too much for my liking. Kay is more pompous than ever.Lucy belongs behind bars.Benton is simply therenothing remarkable about him. The only endearing character is Marino. I'm not sure anyone could work for this condescending know it all for long, let alone be in a relationship with her. Her character gets more and more unlikable and I think at times I need to start rooting for the perpetr. "not one sympathetic character in this book" according to A Customer. There is not one character in this story with whom I have any sympathy. What happened to Pete Marino, who, in my mind, was always a good guy who worked together with Kay almost seamlessly. Now, he is a miserable, mean SOB. Perhaps it's time to retire Pete. Also, Lucy, the niece - what a piece of shabby work. Can she ever get her head out of herself and actually relate to the real world? Then there is Kay hereslf, becoming so angry with Benton about not telling her what Lucy's current problem was. Well, guess what Kay, since you are not only a doctor, but also a law

Her earlier works include Postmortemthe only novel to win five major crime awards in a single yearand Cruel and Unusual, which won Britains prestigious Gold Dagger Award for the best crime novel of 1993. Kay Scarpetta herself won the 1999 Sherlock Award for the best detective created by an American author.. Patricia Cornwell's most recent bestsellers include Red Mist, Port Mortuary, and Portrait of a Kil

Cornwell seems to have grown weary of the lot of them. All rights reserved. Kay Scarpetta is all snarky professional reserve and personal insecurity. Her Dr. Self-loathing lesbian niece Lucy, sounds properly troublesome and troubled, with an added catch in the throat due to a secret she's keeping. . And Scarpetta's inamorato, Benton Wesley, whose study of mass murderers' brain patterns gives the novel its title, is, as his name suggests, the very model of a dry, annoyingly passive-aggressive personality. Pete Marino, the bullet-headed, gym rat security chief of the Lucy-originated National Forensic Academy, sounds so gruff and aggressive, he should be kept on a chain leash. But there's still a
