_scm_1 said Might be the only songbook you'll ever need.. If you're someone like me who is interested in the songs of antiquity and want to get better acquainted with them, this book is an excellent starting place. And with over 100 songs, it might very well be the only songbook you'll ever need.Included is an introduction that I found helpful, and the arrangements are easy and very approachable. It's also filled with drawings that really put you into the time period of these songs. Overall, the layout and look of the book is pretty classy. It'll look great propped up . A great resource, very well done Ola B. Humphries This book of songs is well worth the price. I especially liked seeing the section on Welsh songs, which seem to be poorly represented in some books. Songs have three parts, a good "historical background," and most standard verses. (The editor says that he omitted some verses from "Lavender's Blue" "not for bowdlerization, but because they incline to dullness.") Many songs have words in both Gaelic and English.. "This book is a treasure" according to Caitlin St John. My favorite aunt gave me a copy of this book back in the 60s, when it first came out, as a Christmas present. I was instantly smitten with it, and have loved playing and singing from it ever since. A couple of friends and I are in the midst of planning a program of music from the British Isles, to be played on organ, piano and recorder. This book has so many possibilities, and we're going to have a wonderful time figuring out arrangements.
