Mark said I think I've read this before. Our hero, A. Shaw, is on the trail of the evil sadistic megalomaniac Nicholas Creel - no, wait, it's Evan Waller this time. Waller/Creel is a hugely successful businessman in his 60's with a contempt for weak people and thinks that the strong should rule the world, but still sees a place for going to church. His one weakness is younger women, whom he'll enjoy for a while and then kill, or at least try to. He is assisted by his loyal but weak aide, Dick Pender - no, no, that's Alan Rice - who fails him once too often and is murdered as a result. Wa. "have read many of Baldacci's books which I generally like better than this one" according to Davis. I have read many of Baldacci's books which I generally like better than this one. I don't think the author liked this one very well either because he returned to the major theme of male versus female operatives first in competition and then in cooperation with each other in the Will Robie/Jessica Reel series which I think he did it considerably better. If you are considering this book and haven't read the Robie books buy them instead. SPOILER: I thought that the way both sides in this book toyed with the other in what was really a very dangerous a. Another Baldacci Winner Amazon Customer I like Baldacci's style, across all his venues. This one with the continuation of the A Shaw character, was well-done with enough suspense and narrative to hold my interest late into the night. Of the several violent sequences, it was graphically descriptive and frightening, but the scenes fit the story perfectly. It helped to have read the preceding A Shaw story.
