"A Must Read" according to pickyconsumer. I wish this book could be required reading for all who adopt a dog, and especially those who adopt fearful dogs. I volunteer in a large, local shelter as well as with an organization that rescues puppy mill dogs. I have fostered for both, and adopted a mill dog survivor. This book would help adopters see the world through the eyes of their dogs, and help them understand that through that understanding, we can help our companion animals become their best selves. Sunny's own dogs, the examples she uses in this book, are a testament to how her approach works.. Good for novice owners of rescue dogs This book helped me understand why my male rescue shih tzu/pekingese and female rescue shih tzu act as they do. They came from very different environments but share many of the same behaviors. I've had them for a year, and both are now 7. At their age, I now know that a complete "turnaround" isn't likely, but we can live comfortably with some modified behaviors. They had a tough life, and getting them to trust me has been slow, but they're very affectionate, good dogs, definitely worth continued effort..
