Sarah Aquino said Very excellent for the absolute beginner. I am a self-taught guitarist and I considered myself a beginner. Being self-taught, I'm pretty directionless and whimsical when it comes to practicing and learning. I randomly pick songs off YouTube to mimic, download random tablature and more recently I decided to start investing in guitar instructional manuals to try rein in my lack of discipline. Beyond Basics Fingerstyle Guitar is one of the books I . For Fingerstyle, this is the Hanson book to start with Bobby W. I'm getting back into acoustic guitar, and have purchased a few of the books by Mark Hanson, namely "The Art of Contemporary Travis Picking" and "The Art of Solo Fingerpicking". Those books have a lot of excellent content, but this is the book to start with. Simple enough to sound decent pretty quick and hold your interest, at least for a neophyte like me. If you just get the book and CD, you'll hear Mar. joseph o'haver said I'm a beginner, and can't sing. Strumming chords around a camp fire is not my style and I can't carry a tune in a bucket voice-wise. This is a great book for someone that has some basic knowledge of 8-10 fundamental chords and is interested in developing a little fingerstyle technique. The exercises are straightforward and there are sufficient compositions that are pretty enough to listen to to maintain your interest. I like the book.
